The Journey to Nirvana

While in Cambodia I was in awe watching the monks. Their lifestyles are shaped to support their spiritual practices, to have a simple life, meditative in order to attain Nirvana. It was Buddha, who established the tradition of the ordained monastic community, establishing the order of Bhikkus.

The Orange Robes

They wear orange robes of all amazing hues. The vibrant colors represent their commitment to the spiritual path, a visual reminder of their dedication to Buddhist teachings and the pursuit of enlightenment.

The Sacred Incense

The incense stick is a sensory representation of the holiness of their prayer absorbing the energy of the good scent. The aroma cleans the space for inner and outer journeys. Burning incense is a sign of reverence and dedication to worshipping their deities and ancestors.

The practice of burning incense creates a sacred atmosphere, transforming the physical space into a place of spiritual contemplation. The rising smoke becomes a metaphor for prayers ascending, connecting the earthly realm with the divine.

A Life of Simplicity

The Buddhist monastic life is characterized by its simplicity and dedication. Each aspect of their daily routine—from meditation to alms-gathering—is designed to cultivate mindfulness and move closer to the ultimate goal of liberation from suffering.

Observing these monks in Cambodia left a profound impression on me. Their serene presence and unwavering commitment to their spiritual path serves as a powerful reminder of the beauty found in simplicity and devotion.
